Shadman Shahid is a documentary photographer born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and currently pursuing a masters programme the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague. Previously, he trained at the Pathshala South Asian Media Academy and later taught there. Shahid was included in British Journal of Photography's 'Ones to Watch' in 2016 and selected as a participant in the prestigious Joop Swart Master class in 2017 by World Press Photo. His works commence from personal stories and follow intimate narratives over a longer period, reveal the overlaps between documentary and fiction from the lens of a visual storyteller.
The series ‘Another day in Paradise’ is a photographic investigation focusing on the complex relationship between the specific landscape and inhabitant communities of St. Martin Island, an eight kilometer long island in northeastern Bay of Bengal that forms the southernmost part of Bangladesh. In 1997, St Martin was declared Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) and for the last decade this island’s fragile ecology has faced with a tourism boom, while it drastically shrinks in scale.
