Abdul Halik Azeez's work responds to the dynamics of the self in contemporary ethnic conflict and displacement, urbanization and neoliberalism, decoloniality and orientalism, within competing modernities. His projects explore the public realm of media and print technology, experimenting with the modalities of form and display. His work utilises platforms such as video, zines, and sticker art together with still photos and instagram posts as a means of engaging new media as a critical landscape of information exchange in Sri Lanka. He focuses on signs and symbols; on micro signifiers that speak to the macro landscape, working with the pedestrian and mundane, making images that tell stories about poetic yet moving instances of the violence and truths of the everyday.
